Greener Orkney is delighted to have received support from the Protected Areas Foundation to undertake important beach litter surveys in and around Scapa Flow during 2026 (see our news story about the award here). The surveys will be undertaken by volunteers at four locations, four times during the year at each location.
The funding will allow Greener Orkney to appoint a contractor to arrange the surveys, analyse and collate the results to provide robust evidence of the amount of marine litter present in the Scapa Flow Special Protection Area. The contractor will also assist in producing the materials to train the volunteers.
Greener Orkney is keen to hear from anybody who would wish to contract for this project. .
The contractor will need to demonstrate pre-existing experience in marine litter surveying and organisational skills of managing volunteers. They must live in Orkney and be available to ensure the execution of the surveys throughout the year.
Expressions of interest should therefore be sent to greenerorkney@gmail.com by 5:00pm on Tuesday 17th of February. Applicants should also be available for a short on-line interview on the 21st or 22nd of February with appointment expected to be confirmed on the 26th.
If you know someone who might be interested, please share this post.
