Another great effort by over 55 groups and individuals to help clean the Orkney Isles in the spring. Thanks to everyone who helped and especially to those who contribute every year.

In total around 750 black and turquoise bags were collected from around the islands with strong support from Westray, North Ronaldsay and Sanday in the north and a sterling effort from the regulars in South Ronaldsay and on the mainland.

The ‘Orkney Bin Men’ did a great job picking up collections as they went round the islands and OIC in arranging collections from the outer isles.

We are grateful to the support we receive from Scottish Sea Farms and Cooke Scotland both in terms of the strong black bags and youth gloves but also for the work in removing any large fishing item which is found during Bag the Bruck.

The outstanding effort this year comes from Papdale Nursery who went out over 4 days, in smaller groups, with parents and families.  They walked around the school grounds and surrounding area and filled 6 bags of rubbish.

A comment from Ms Wishart at Papdale Nursery explained:

“Participating in Bag the Bruck helps us begin the conversation with very young children about how important it is to care for our environment, keep things looking beautiful, but also gets us thinking about recycling and safely disposing of our rubbish”
