We know that many of Greener Orkney’s members and friends are keen beach cleaners, and given the recent grounding of the fishing vessel Genesis off Hoy, it’s quite likely that you might come across resulting debris.
Orkney Islands Council’s waste team have been asked to record all identifiable debris collected on the shores of Orkney related to the grounding of the Genesis. So if you are doing a beach clean or you spot likely items on the shore, especially on the west coast, please could you report your findings to recycling@orkney.gov.uk so there is a record which can be passed back to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. If possible, please take photos and identify the location where you found the debris.
