Marine waste that had been disfiguring the beach at Birsay for years was finally removed on 1 October in a joint effort between staff from SSEN (31) and volunteers from Greener Orkney (3). This large group of helpers, using a mixture of mechanised and hand operated tools, managed in an hour to shift several cubic metres of waste which was loaded onto the back of a vehicle and trailer for disposal.
