DESCRIPTION:Bag the Bruck 2023 – 1st to 23rd April 2023\nEvery year (except for the Covid 19 gap) the residents of Orkney go out and do a Spring Clean of the islands. This year Greener Orkney is helping Orkney Islands Council to organise the clean up. Nearly all the litter which is currently lying around the islands would eventually end up in the sea. Marine litter is one of the five main drivers of the current biodiversity crisis\, threatening about a third of all marine mammals with extinction. \nLocal groups and individuals can register to take part in BagtheBruck by contacting bagthebruck@gmail.com. They will receive a simple contact details form\, which will need to be completed and some guidance on the activity. There is also a form which needs to be sent back after the clean up activity has taken place. \nGreener Orkney will be making up the packs of gloves and bags and they will be available in advance for collection at the Kirkwall Council Offices\, the Warehouse Hub in Stromness and the Post Office in Dounby. This will be in the week before the 1st April when Bag the Bruck commences. \nBag the Bruck is a three week activity over the first 3 weeks in April and in the last week the schools will be back and schools often organise for their children to take part in the activities if they are over 10 years old. \nThe local community councils can also sponsor some groups to take part in the activities if the collection is going to be in their area so worth contacting them as well. Many of the local businesses have also provided gloves\, bags and support for the activity this year.
